Pour Trigger
Project type
Practical Effects Trigger
Date
February 2023
Location
Provo, UT
Role
Design and Consulting
Utah Motion Control needed a practical effects trigger for their robotic high-speed camera that could hold cans of various sizes and pour them in a controlled way. My job was to create a device that could be easily mounted and used on set without being seen by the camera.
To start the project, I conducted thorough research to ensure that I fully understood the client's needs and requirements. I then designed several prototypes and tested them to determine the best options. From there, I fabricated the necessary mounting fixtures and delivered them to the set.
Once on set, I took on the role of a practical effects expert, ensuring that the rig was maintained and reset throughout the shoot. The design of the device was relatively straightforward, but the challenge was in creating custom fixtures that could be easily swapped out to minimize downtime. I was able to design and manufacture these fixtures, ultimately delivering a successful product that met the client's needs and exceeded their expectations.
Overall, this project was a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills as a designer and engineer, and to work collaboratively with a client to achieve their vision.
